Help me help Veterans?

I’m looking for an organization that re-trains injured Veterans in graphic art/graphic design on the computer. If you come home from Iraq and are going to spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair you can still do graphic art on the computer, if someone can get you started. In fact, freelancing from home would be easier due to a lack of commuting hassles. I’d like to volunteer, or even work full time, with such an organization. I know that Walter Reed has a program that offers training in IT stuff, but I’m in the more creative end of computer doings. I’m aware of the GI Bill & other assistance with education for service personnel, but what about getting to and from classes if you’re in a wheelchair? Possible, certainly, but wouldn’t it be easier if someone could come to you for tutoring? Having been a peer tutor in high school, a TA in college a couple times, and having done some software tutoring since then, I know that it can be easier and faster learning things in a one-on-one teaching situation. I’ve been doing graphic art on the computer for about 20 years, and professionally for the last 11 years. I would love to have the opportunity to work with Vets in training them in the use of graphics software, and principles of graphic design & layout.
Any help is appreciated; thanks!

bob- thanks for the oh-so-useful sarcasm. Seems you’re the one needing a spelling lesson; there are no misspellings …or are you busting on my crappy grammar? Either way, wouldn’t you think I’d be more careful on something for a client than I would for some online forum? thanks ayway

contact your local uso, but then you probably already know that, HMMM. and also try learning how to spell . after 20 years of graphics, one would think you could spell.

Give American College of Technology a look, they’ve got a 2 year multimedia design program. it’s all online so there is no commuting hassle, with live lectures and actual interaction with and feedback from the instructors. Very GI bill friendly. they had my GI Bill claim processed within a week. They even go so far as to walk you through the steps of the application process. Give this guy a call, Lute Atieh at 800-908-9329 pick option 1 and it will put you through to him. He’s the head of admissions. he’s there mon-friday 9am-9pm central time.

Contact the Veterans Administration in your area and volunteer your services.
