How do I get started with an online business? Help!?

I want to sell custom designed birth announcements, invitations, business cards, things like that. But I just have no idea how to get started and it’s so overwhelming. Someone told me to start off by selling through an Ebay store rather than starting my own website. Then if I do well through Ebay, move on to having my own site.
Anyone out there have any advice or tips for me?? Thanks!

There are many things you can do at little to no cost…you can get yourself a free website like at tripod.com or something simular and list your products on that, you can make paypal buy now buttons from paypal merchant tools.

The big thing is getting seen on the net….ebay offers that.
Ebay has really gotten carried away with their fees though, so maybe do some test sales on regular ebay before getting a store.

The first thing is to make sure it will be profitable.
Do your break even analysis.
Find out EXACTLY what it will cost to do business via eBay, and using PayPal.
You might be disappointed, but you must know in advance.
