How much would it cost to design a medium/large web 2.0 site?

I’m doing research on building a medium to large web 2.0 site from the ground up (as an example think ehow.com but not quite as much emphasize on social networking). It would have about 9 ‘main’ areas and 5 sub areas under each, plus must be able to dynamically generate pages and parse/serve content from user input. How much would it cost to hire a design firm for such a site?

And do you know of any good design firms in the NY area?
Thanks!

You can spend anywhere from a few thousand to tens of thousands. It depends on the detailed specification of what all you want the site to do. Sometimes, the simple sounding stuff is not very simple. Also you have considerations for the amount of traffic and data storage you’ll require.

I don’t know any firms in NY but it should be too hard to google for one.

You can find many web designers at website like http://definitivelab.com/ .

It would cost tens of thousands of dollars (probably hundreds of thousands, especially in NY) and it would take at least 6 months assuming that you wanted the system up to speed with technology that already exists out there.

You could try partnering with companies that already in the business. Companies like http://www.thevillage.com have a platform already built that you could use to reach your goals. You can be up and running in minutes as well, instead of months.

Also, studies have shown that ongoing support of a product can cost 3 to 4 times more than the initial development. You should think about that as well when coming up with a financial plan.

try contacting http://www.sitedesigndirect.com with coupon cns10 to get free one hour consultation on this. they have done a famous dynamic uk based travel site

i am not sure about the costs, but their prices are pretty cheap as their development centre is based in asia
