I need some information about web design, graphic design, and computer programming, please?

I would like to know more about web design classes, and how it is as a temporary and possible long term career. I have taken classes in C++ programing and was good at it, and I enjoyed it. I have also been thinking graphic design, I’m pretty creative and can draw alright–but I will admit that I’m not the best at drawing.

People who already work in the field, or are taking classes would be very much appreciated if they answered this. :)

C++ is not the best language to use when tackling the web. I would recommend you to learn PHP web programming – and if you like – then you can approach web.

In regards to creativity – drawing is simply not enough when it comes to web – you have to really grasp the needs of your projects and abide by guidelines as well (Web standards, CMS restrictions, SEO restrictions…etc…)

If you are lost in your career selection, I also suggest the following test that helps you assess your qualifications: http://www.careercconline.com/Request-the-Birkman-Questionnaire

I can only tell you my experience as graphic designer. There aren’t that many jobs out there right now; I graduated last year and have yet to find a full-time job in the field. Many of the job listings I see are for web designers.

Drawing is a very small part of graphic design, at least for me. If you’re an Illustrator then that’s a different story, but for the most part a Graphic Designer takes various elements (typography, color, etc.) and lays them out in different formats. It really depends on which area of design you want to get into. For example, if you work for a magazine you might be designing the spreads, image manipulating photos or creating ads. You definitely don’t need to know how to draw to be a Graphic Designer.
