I noticed on craigslist that almost all graphic design jobs require a 4 year BA to even get ur foot in the door. I am now trying to decide what to major/minor in and am thinking marketing as my major and graphic design as minor.should i go this way or other way around perhaps? I enjoy graphic design but would like to keep option open for marketing if money problems arise.very confused and would appriciate ne advice. thnks

If you enjoy marketing more than graphic design then major in marketing. Companies looking for graphic designers want someone who has a 4 year degree because that lets the company know that the person’s main educational focus was on design. They don’t want someone who isn’t able to handle the job. If you minor in graphic design you probably won’t be as proficient in the programs (this is how it may appear to the employer) because your classes aren’t solely focused on design.

There is probably more money to be made in marketing because the design field is very competitive and there are very few design jobs out there. Although, if you have a good, strong design portfolio I’d say apply for those jobs anyway (even if you don’t have a 4 year degree) because what is more important to the employer is the work that you create.
