MAC computers… I know nothing about them, but may get one to help w/ web design classes I will be taking.?

I found a fairly cheap MAC G4 that has Mac OS X 3.9 installed
1 Gig Ram . Is this worth even looking into? What questions should I ask when looking for a MAC? I may want to load DreamWeaver software to it. I don’t even know what to look for when looking for a MAC. I can’t afford a new one.

I know you’re asking about a Mac. However, you can almost always find the programs you need for a PC if you already have one. Could save you time, money, and hassle. Unfortunately, I know near to nothing about Macs.

I perfer PC for me but if your getting a mac i think you should see the DreamWeaver System Requirements here’s a link

Don’t do it. Macs are expensive and run the exact same programs as a pc. They are extremely difficult to use and guess what? You can’t even right click properly with an apple mouse.

know that g4s arent really that new.
there pretty ancient as a matter of fact.
    itll be slow.
your better off getting a pc. or if you have the money a macbook or something.
you could be surprised on what you could get on craigslist sometimes.
look around. maybe youll find something.
if all means fail then look into the g4

1GB of RAM is pretty darn bad. Don’t do it even if it’s $200 or less!

If you want a cheap computer don’t get a Mac, get a PC. They have similar specs for a lower price and can run more programs than Macs can too. Macs’ reputation as a web/graphic designer computer is overrated.

Buying a used computer is outright dangerous too. No warranty, so if the computer dies you’ll be paying a premium on something you thought was cheap. And no way to tell how well the internals are holding up or how soon they’ll snap…

Doubtful you’ll need Dreamweaver… If it helps any, know that both Mac and Windows can run free web development programs like KompoZer. http://kompozer.net/
The best tool for coding is doing it by hand, something that Dreamweaver allows you to do, but for a high price tag, when you can do the same by just editing the same HTML file in Windows’ Notepad.

I’d buy a Mac now – but I’d make sure it was an intel mac, so I had the option of running Windows if I needed to.

1GB of RAM is actually quite a lot. People running Windows don’t think so – but that’s their fault for running a crappy OS and not trying any alternatives. For everyone I installed a second OS, they would never ever think of running a Windows – only computer again, and half of them just deleted Windows from their machine altogether.

For people who answered ‘I prefer a PC’ – try not to be ignorant.

I have a PC, and it has three operating systems installed. Why do you think PC is different from a Mac? Do you swallow all of the advertising designed to make you ignorant? It’s like when you were six years old at schools and girls asked boys ‘are you a girl or a gay?’ and the boys get all confused and can’t think of an answer.

Macs are good and they can be expensive pcs were expensive before they started to drop so they appear expensive but they were the norm.

I recommend getting a computer with more then 1 gb of ram only because DW is powerful and if you have photoshop etc you may want to get more speed so you can open more programs at once without being sluggish.
