What’s the difference between graphic design and web developing?

I need to know this because I want to persue a career in freelance web design. When finding clients, do you keep your clients permanently (if they like your work) or is it all part-time or shirt-term? Are there any people with experience who can help?

what kind of classes do i sign up for college? if i want to do web development or web design? do you think a community college will have these courses? and do i have to take a CORE classes if i want to go into these fields?
