What reason could I give to a university as to why I’m choosing web design and not Software design?

I’m going to write something about being creative, but that begs the question… why not study software design? my real reason is because web design is simply easier, but what can I tell the university?

Am interested in web design, what books can give me a start? It seems like such a daunting field.?
