Im 14 have finalized my choice to become a video game designer after college, the only problem is, I really dont know how to accomplish this. I know of several schools that you can get a bachelors degree in video game design but none of them really seem to be major schools that would appeal to a company to higher me. So im asking, what is a good college in the Indiana area for video game design?
You need to rethink your choice to be a video game designer. Such jobs are leaving the USA because they can be done by programmers in foreign countries for $3/hour. Degrees in “Video Game Design” have a poor reputation. Instead, get a degree in Computer Engineering Technology. Indian University—Purdue, in Indianapolis, has this BSCET degree.
Flashpoint Academy is within commuting distance of Northwest Indiana. The school is located right in downtown Chicago and offers two year programs in Game Development and Interactive Media. It’s a new college (opened in 2007) and I know you said you’re wary of schools you don’t consider “major,” but over 70% of the graduates from Flashpoint’s first class have gotten jobs in their field, and some have even gone on to start their own game company. (You can watch a video about Metamoorephosis Games here: http://vimeo.com/7685996)
I actually work at Flashpoint, so if you have any questions about our Game Development program you can either contact me or go to http://www.flashpointacademy.com/programs/game for more information.
I hope this helps!
